Book Donations – How, What, Where & When

How Can You Support the Van Alstyne Library?

You can help support the Van Alstyne Library by donating a book!  Check around your house for books that you might not read again and donate them!  We accept all types of books like children books, young adult books, informational books (cooking, crafts, fishing, etc.), adult fiction & non-fiction books and more!  The Friends of the Library and the Van Alstyne Public Library have benefited from patron donations for years and we are very thankful for the continued support from our community!

What Can You Donate?

The Friends of the Van Alstyne Library will accept gently used books that are clean, dry, mold & mildew free.  We accept board games and puzzles (as long as all the pieces are included).  We accept DVD movies (kids & adults) and also Computer Software (as long as it’s usable with current computers – Windows 10/11 or Mac).  We accept kids books that sing, talk or make noises as long as they work (please include batteries).

What Can’t You Donate?

Please do not try to donate any garage or estate sale “leftovers”!  We do not accept VHS Tapes, Music CD’s, Audio Cassettes, Encyclopedias, Magazines Older Than 3 Months, Readers Digest Condensed, or Text Books.  The items you donate must be sellable and usable so we can  raise money for the Van Alstyne Library.

Where & When Can You Donate?

All donations can be brought to the Van Alstyne Public Library Lobby on Mondays between 11AM to 6PM.  We request that donations be neatly boxed up, if you have a lot of books.  Due to manpower and limited storage, we request you to limit your donations to only two (2) boxes per week, per family.

The Van Alstyne Library is located at 151 W. Cooper Street in Van Alstyne.  Donations are accepted every Monday, except Holidays during their open hours of 11AM to 6PM.  Remember to bring your donations inside to the Lobby of the Library.  Any boxes left outside the library building, in the parking lot or by the book drop will be disposed of and not accepted (no dumping!).

Cash donations are always welcome — they give us the flexibility to purchase media and other equipment to meet needs in the community.
