The story appeared on Sherman-Denison-Ardmore area newscasts and noted:
Right now, FOTL is selling donated books at the Van Alstyne Community Center. The organization has semi-annual fundraisers, and all proceeds go directly to the library.
“We try to provide money for the things the city budget doesn’t cover; one of the most popular is our kids program in the summer,” said FOTL member Kay Losh. “We’ve also helped to pay for some improvements to the library itself: New flooring, updates, painting, that kind of thing.”
The Friends appreciates KTEN’s help in spreading the word about our fundraiser.
KXII shared the Friends of the Van Alstyne Public Library’s efforts to Bring the Power of Wi-Fi to Van Alstyne area students!
Donations help this program serve more students and families who cannot otherwise afford Wi-Fi. For information on how to donate, please click here.

Thanks to the Sherman Walmart for supporting the Jammie Brigade, the library’s literacy program benefiting the Crisis Center. For ten years the library’s Teen Council has brought crafts, story time and free books to the children staying in the family shelter for victims of domestic violence.
Thanks to everyone for helping make the Spring Book Sale a success! For everyone that cooked, moved boxes, organized tables, broke down boxes, served, sold, or helped in any way… THANK YOU. An especially big THANK YOU to Boy Scout Troop 44. For many years, Troop 44 has, through many hours of set-up assistance, has made our sale possible.
The Van Alstyne Public Library had the pleasure of hosting the Van Alstyne Chamber of Commerce Breakfast. The Friends had a membership drive and shared information about ways local businesses can support the Library’s building improvement project.
It was great to see old friends and make some new ones, too!
Thanks to our local newspaper, the Van Alstyne Leader for recognizing the library’s many achievements in 2016.
Dedicated staff, supportive residents, generous donors, and volunteers pulled together to implement a long list of improvements and programs. Our community has good reason to be proud of our public library.
